RE: TRANSFORMATION OF THE INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT

This communication serves to inform all students currently enrolled at the IDM-Botswana Campus about the transformation of Institute of Development Management (IDM) as well as what this development means for them.

IDM was established in 1974 by the governments of Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) as a regional institution designed to provide short courses, seminars, research, consultancy, public education in the public, parastatal, and private sectors of the participating countries. The institution later expanded its mandate in 2007 to include post-secondary education.

The three governments have since agreed to dissolve the institution in order to accommodate emerging strategic imperatives in the respective countries. In the case of Botswana, a new institution will be ultimately be established as part of the process of the rationalisation of some state-owned institutions. As a result of this development, IDM-Botswana will no longer enrol new students.

The student community is assured that there will be no disruption to the teaching and learning process. Students enrolled at IDM-Botswana will be taught until they complete their studies. In addition, this development has no bearing on the status and recognition of qualifications offered by the institution. The qualifications are accredited by the Botswana Qualifications Authority and the institution will continue to adhere to the standards that have been set by BQA. Students will, on completion of their studies, be awarded IDM qualifications accredited by BQA. Most importantly, the institution will adhere to all BQA requirements on the protection of enrolled learners.

The Students Representative Council has been engaged and will continue to be engaged as the journey unfolds. It was agreed at the meeting with the SRC that a detailed Question and Answer document will be availed to all students on Monday 03rd February 2025, the purpose of which is to provide further clarity with respect to what this development means, including the management of activities that the three IDM campuses used to undertake together.

Thank you.
